Choosing an Amount

How a backer picks a pledge amount depends on whether the campaign has reward tiers. Either way, the chosen amount carries through to the Checkout page, which now hosts both the selection step and the review step.

When a campaign has no reward tiers, a pledge-what-you-want form appears directly on the campaign page sidebar. Backers select from suggested amounts or enter a custom amount, then click Pledge to go straight to the Checkout review screen.

Staff configure up to six suggested amounts in Settings → Currency and payments. These appear as clickable chips on the pledge form. Clicking a chip selects that amount.

Backers can enter any amount in the custom input field. The field displays the site’s configured currency symbol. Minimum and maximum limits are enforced — if configured in Settings, amounts outside the range are rejected with a validation message.

When a campaign has active reward tiers, the campaign page sidebar displays tier cards instead of the pledge form. Selecting a tier or the “Pledge What You Want” option takes the backer to the Checkout page, which opens in selection mode before transitioning to the review step.

When a backer selects a reward tier, the checkout page opens to a selection screen showing:

  • The tier’s image, title, and description
  • A pledge amount input, pre-filled with the tier’s minimum amount
  • A Continue to Checkout button
  • A Back to Campaign link

The backer can increase their pledge above the tier minimum but cannot go below it. Clicking Continue to Checkout transitions the same page to the review screen with the tier attached to the pledge.

When a backer selects the “Pledge What You Want” option (available when the PWYW Alongside Rewards setting is enabled), the checkout page opens to a selection screen showing:

  • Suggested amount chips (if configured)
  • A custom amount input
  • A Continue to Checkout button
  • A Back to Campaign link

This is the same amount-selection experience as the campaign-page form, but reached via the checkout page. No reward tier is attached to the pledge.

Visitors who are not logged in are redirected to the Login/Register page with a context message explaining they need an account to pledge. After logging in or registering, they are returned to the pledge flow. If guest checkout is enabled, they can also enter just an email instead of registering.
