Reward Levels

Reward levels let a campaign offer tiered pledge options. Each tier has a title, description, minimum pledge amount, and optional image and quantity limit. Backers choose a tier on the campaign page and are guided through a dedicated pledge page to confirm their amount before checkout.

Campaigns without reward tiers continue to use the pledge-what-you-want form directly on the campaign page.

Reward levels are enabled by default. Staff can toggle the feature in Ignition > Settings:

Setting Default Description
Reward Levels Enabled When enabled, the campaign wizard includes a Rewards step for adding tiered pledge rewards.
PWYW Alongside Rewards Enabled When enabled, a “Pledge What You Want” option appears alongside reward tiers on the campaign page. When disabled, only the defined tiers are shown.

See Settings for details.

Reward tiers are added in the Rewards step of the campaign form wizard.

Each tier has:

Field Required Description
Title Yes A short name for the tier (e.g., “Early Bird”, “Gold Supporter”).
Description No Details about what the backer receives.
Image No A featured image for the tier, uploaded via the media library.
Minimum Amount Yes The minimum pledge amount for this tier. Backers can pledge more but not less.
Quantity Limit No Maximum number of backers who can claim this tier. Leave at 0 for unlimited.
One Per Backer No When checked, each backer can only claim this tier once.
Requires shipping address No When checked, backers pledging for this tier must enter a shipping address (Name, Address, City, Region, Postal, Country) on the checkout review step. The address persists with the pledge and surfaces in the backer’s pledge detail, the admin pledge detail, and the admin Export Pledges CSV. See Checkout → Shipping address.

Tiers are saved immediately via the REST API as they are created — no need to click a separate save button. The wizard shows the current list of tiers with options to edit, reorder, or remove each one.

The Requires shipping address checkbox controls whether the checkout review step adds a Shipping Address fieldset for backers selecting this tier. Use it for physical-fulfillment tiers (T-shirts, books, hardware kits) and leave it unchecked for digital rewards.

Backers see a Recipient name, two address lines, City, optional State / Region, Postal code, and Country. The address is stored alongside the pledge and surfaces on:

  • The backer’s pledge detail page
  • The wp-admin pledge detail screen
  • The admin Export Pledges CSV (seven appended columns, one per schema field)

Once a campaign leaves Draft, this field is locked along with the other claim-affecting fields.

Drag tiers or use the up/down arrows to change their display order. The order shown in the wizard is the order backers see on the campaign page.

Once a campaign leaves Draft status, certain tier fields are locked to protect existing backers:

Field Editable after draft?
Title Yes
Description Yes
Image Yes
Minimum Amount No (locked)
Quantity Limit No (locked)
One Per Backer No (locked)
Requires shipping address No (locked)

This prevents changes that would affect backers who have already pledged at a specific tier.

  • Remove — Permanently deletes a tier. Only available when no backers have pledged at that tier.
  • Deactivate — Hides the tier from the campaign page but preserves it for existing pledges. Available when the tier has at least one non-canceled pledge.

Deactivated tiers still appear in the wizard (marked as inactive) so you can see what was offered. They do not appear on the campaign page or in the tier selection for new backers.

When a campaign has active reward tiers, the campaign page sidebar displays tier cards instead of the pledge-what-you-want form.

Each card shows:

  • Tier image (if set)
  • Title and description
  • Minimum pledge amount
  • Remaining quantity (if a limit is set)
  • A Sold Out badge when the quantity limit is reached

Backers select a tier and are taken to the pledge page to confirm their amount.

When the PWYW Alongside Rewards setting is enabled, a “Pledge What You Want” card appears below the tier cards. Selecting it takes the backer to the pledge page where they can enter any amount without selecting a tier.

When the setting is disabled, only the defined tiers are available.

If a campaign has no active reward tiers (or the Reward Levels setting is disabled), the campaign page shows the pledge-what-you-want form directly in the sidebar — the same behavior as before reward levels were introduced. The pledge page is skipped entirely.

When all available slots for a tier are claimed, the tier card is visually dimmed and marked Sold Out. Backers cannot select a sold-out tier. If a pledge at that tier is later canceled — or fully refunded — the slot becomes available again. A partial refund keeps the slot claimed.
