The To Pay queue

Ignition → Payouts, the To Pay tab. One row for every creator you are holding money for, answering a single question: who am I holding money for, and how much?

One row is one creator in one currency. A creator you hold two currencies for appears twice, and each row is paid separately.

A payment appears in this queue when all of the following are true:

  • it succeeded,
  • your platform is the one holding it — not the creator, and not a payment provider that already paid the creator directly, and
  • no payout you have recorded already covers it.

The amount shown is what is left of those payments after everything that has come off them: what the payment provider kept, any commission or tip an add-on has taken, and any refunds recorded against them.

A backer can be refunded weeks after you have already paid the creator for that pledge. Nothing is clawed back. Instead the refund is subtracted from the creator’s next payout, and the queue shows the reduced figure — with a Refunds since the last payout line on the record form so you can see exactly what came off.

If refunds outweigh everything you are holding for a creator, they drop out of the queue entirely rather than showing as a negative balance.

Above the table are three views, with a count and — when the whole queue is in one currency — a running total:

View What is in it
Ready to Pay The default. Money behind campaigns that are either flexible-funded, or all-or-nothing and have reached their goal.
Held Back Money behind an all-or-nothing campaign that has not reached its goal, or behind a campaign that is no longer on the site.
All Both, ready first, each group under its own heading.

A creator’s money is never split between the two groups. If any one campaign behind a row is held back, the whole row is held back — so what you see in Ready to Pay is genuinely safe to send in full.

Held-back rows are marked in the table, and the Held Back view carries a warning above it:

This money is not ready to send. Money is held back when a fixed (all-or-nothing) campaign has not reached its goal, or when its campaign is no longer on this site. Backers of an unsuccessful fixed campaign may be entitled to a refund. You can record a payout anyway — a sponsor covering a shortfall, or a campaign being wound up, are your call, not the plugin’s.

That is the whole posture of this add-on: it tells you, and then it lets you decide. On a held-back row the button reads Record a Payout Anyway rather than Record a Payout.

A campaign that has been deleted or trashed is always treated as held back. The plugin will not publish money as ready to send on behalf of a campaign that is no longer on the site.

Column What it shows
Creator Display name, linked to their creator record, with their email beneath. A creator whose WordPress account has been deleted reads (Deleted User) with their old user number.
Campaign Up to three campaign names, then “and N more”. Underneath, the funding position of one campaign behind the row — Flexible funding, Fixed funding — goal reached, or Goal not reached with the amount raised, the goal, and the percentage. On a held-back row this line describes the campaign that caused the hold.
Amount Held The suggested payout, in that row’s currency. Reads Amount Held Back in the Held Back view.
Currency Only present when the queue holds more than one currency.
Payments How many held payments make up the amount.
Oldest Payment How many whole days the oldest of them has been waiting, with its date beneath.

Sort by Amount Held (the default, largest first) or by Oldest Payment.

Each row also carries a Payout History link, which opens the History tab filtered to that creator.

A notice appears above the table:

This queue holds N currencies. Amounts are shown per currency and are not added together. A payout covers one creator in one currency, so a creator with money in more than one appears once per currency.

The running totals on the three views are dropped in that case, because there is no honest single number to show.

Under the amount you may see a ⚠ line saying the suggestion may be wrong, and in which direction:

  • May be too high — N payments have no processing fee recorded. The payment provider kept a fee it never reported, so the suggestion still includes it. Ignition cannot recover a fee that was never reported — it is never filled in later.
  • May be too low — N payments carry a partial refund. A partial refund of a charge that included a backer’s tip cannot be split between the pledge and the tip, so the whole tip is deducted rather than just the refunded share.
  • May be wrong — N payments have incomplete figures. Both of the above are present.

The mark never changes the amount and never stops you. It exists so you find out before the money leaves your account, not after. Recording a payout explains each one in full and shows you which payments are affected.

  • Nothing held at all: “Nothing is waiting to be paid out.” with a link to what you have already paid.
  • Nothing ready, but money is held back: “Nothing is ready to pay.” alongside the amount being held back.
  • Nothing held back: “No money is being held back. Every campaign with money waiting is flexible or has reached its goal.”
  • In Test view with no test money: “You’re in Test view. No test money is waiting to be paid out.”
