Checkout

The Checkout page is where backers review and confirm their pledge before receiving payment instructions.

Assign a page as the Checkout page in Settings → Page assignments. The page must contain the igcf/checkout block or the [igcf_checkout] shortcode. Click Create Page in Settings to generate a page titled “Checkout” with the block already inserted.

For campaigns with reward tiers, the Checkout page first opens in selection mode — backers confirm or pick their amount on the same page before continuing. This step is described in Choosing an Amount.

For campaigns without reward tiers, the campaign-page sidebar form submits directly to the review screen and selection mode is skipped.

After selecting an amount (either from the campaign-page sidebar form or from selection mode on the Checkout page itself), the backer sees:

  • Reward tier — If the backer selected a reward tier, its image, title, and description are displayed at the top of the review screen. PWYW pledges do not show a tier.
  • Pledge amount — the amount they selected. If an add-on offers the backer something to add on top — a tip, or covering a fee — this headline becomes the running total they will be charged instead, and an itemised breakdown appears beneath it, updating as the backer changes their mind. Without such an add-on the headline is simply the pledge amount and no breakdown appears.
  • Campaign name — links back to the campaign they are supporting
  • Payment method — “Offline Payment”
  • Identity section — Either a “Pledging as” preview (for logged-in backers) or guest / sign-in / register paths (for logged-out visitors). See Identity section below.
  • Shipping address — For tiers marked Requires shipping address, a fieldset collects Recipient name, Address line 1, Address line 2 (optional), City, State / Region (optional), Postal code, and Country. The fieldset is hidden for tiers that do not require shipping and for Pledge-What-You-Want pledges. See Shipping address below.
  • Terms checkbox — Required when a terms page is configured. Sits directly above the Confirm Pledge button.
  • Confirm Pledge button

The backer can also click Cancel to return to the campaign page.

The identity section renders differently depending on whether the visitor is logged in.

Logged-in backers see a “Pledging as: display name” card with two controls aligned to the right of the name:

  • A Sign out link — Signs the backer out and returns them to the same review URL so they can re-enter as a guest or with a different account.
  • A Hide my name from the backer list checkbox — Acts as a live preview of how the backer will appear on the public backer list. Toggling it flips the visible name between the backer’s display name and “Anonymous” instantly, no reload required. The checked state is what gets stored on the pledge.

The card no longer shows the backer’s email address — it is a preview of the public row, where email is never shown.

The default state of the Hide my name checkbox respects the backer’s Default to anonymous preference from Account → Privacy default.

Logged-out visitors see equal-weight paths so no single option is forced:

  • When guest checkout is enabled — A full-width Continue as Guest CTA with an inline email field appears first, followed by an “or” divider and a two-column outlined Sign in / Register row.
  • When guest checkout is disabled — Only the outlined Sign in / Register row appears.

Clicking Register opens the auth page with the Register tab pre-selected. Clicking Sign in opens it with the Log In tab active. Both return the visitor to the same review URL afterwards.

When the selected reward tier has its Requires shipping address option enabled, the review screen adds a Shipping Address fieldset between the identity section and the Confirm button. Fields:

Field Required Notes
Recipient name Yes Defaults to the logged-in user’s display name when present.
Address line 1 Yes Street, P.O. Box, or company name.
Address line 2 No Apartment, suite, unit, or building.
City Yes
State / Region No Province / county / state.
Postal code Yes
Country Yes

Missing required fields are highlighted inline and the pledge cannot be confirmed until they are filled. The address is stored alongside the pledge and surfaces on the Pledge Detail page, on the wp-admin pledge detail screen, and in the admin Export Pledges CSV (seven appended columns).

The fieldset does not appear for Pledge-What-You-Want pledges or for tiers that do not require shipping.

If the site administrator has configured a terms page, a required checkbox appears on the review screen directly above the Confirm Pledge button: “I agree to the Terms and Conditions” (with a link to the terms page). If a WordPress privacy policy page is also configured, the checkbox includes both links.

The checkbox appears on every checkout — each pledge requires independent terms acceptance. This ensures backers actively agree to the current terms for each transaction.

After clicking Confirm Pledge, the checkout displays a “Pledge Confirmed!” message with a summary of the pledge amount and campaign name. If the payment carried more than the pledge — a tip, or a fee the backer chose to cover — the summary also names the total charged and prints the same itemised breakdown the backer saw on the review screen. If the pledge includes a reward tier, the tier details are shown on the confirmation as well. If offline payment instructions are configured, they appear below the summary. The backer can then click View My Pledges to go to their dashboard or Back to Campaign to return to the campaign page.

If the backer returns to the receipt later, the heading reflects the pledge’s current state — a canceled pledge reads “Pledge Canceled” — and the offline payment instructions are shown only while the pledge is still awaiting payment.

The offline payment instructions are configured in Settings → Currency and payments and support placeholders:

Placeholder Replaced with
{amount} The formatted pledge amount with currency symbol
{campaign_name} The name of the campaign
{pledge_id} The unique pledge ID for reference

Configure the offline payment instructions in Settings → Currency and payments → Offline payment instructions. The editor supports rich text formatting. Use the placeholders above to personalize the instructions for each pledge.
